Watch Atlanta Police Keep Driver in Stolen Truck from Fleeing
Dec. 14, 2022
After Atlanta police officers spot a suspected stolen pickup truck at a gas station, the driver tried to escape by crashing into a patrol car in reverse while the gas pump hose was still attached.
The Atlanta Police Department released dashboard camera footage of officers stopping a driver in a stolen truck from fleeing a gas station last month while the vehicle was still attached to the pump.
The incident happened Nov. 18 when police spotted a stolen pickup at a gas station in the city's Mechanicsville neighborhood, WSB-TV reports. When officers confronted the driver, he threw the truck into reverse with the gas pump hose still attached and slammed into a cruiser.
Video footage then shows the driver shifting to drive and trying to maneuver between the station's pumps and past a patrol car blocking his path. The truck jumped an island and collided with another vehicle.
The driver finally exited the truck and surrendered to police. He was charged with theft by receiving, fleeing and eluding, hit and run and other traffic violations.
